Our Favourite Kitchener Coffee Shops

Kitchener is quickly becoming a hub for eclectic coffee shops that offer awesome meeting and work spaces, a variety of foods and incredible coffee. Each is different and unique in their own way, it’s so hard to pick a favourite! So we’ve done our rounds (it was a tough job…) and put our favourites on a map so you can have your own coffee exploration! A. MATTER OF TASTE - The “original” downtown Kitchener cafe since 2004! This quaint coffee shop offers thoughtfully sourced coffee, pastries and gelato. With plenty of seating, a quiet setting and a large communal table in the back, it is a great place to sit back and relax or do some work. It is located directly on King Street, across the street from the new City Centre condo. B. SMILE TIGER - One of the most instagrammed cafes in the region! With the original location on Ahrens, just off of Victoria, and a new location in the newly opened J&P Grocery, they are covering all your DTK coffee needs. They roast all of their own coffee at the Ahrens street location and provide delicious tasting coffee though a variety of traditional and new brewing methods. Our Kaufman residents love it as it is the perfect stroll away! C. SETTLEMENT CO. - We are so happy to welcome Waterloo native Settlement Co. to the Kitchener hood. At the base of the One Victoria Condominiums (steps from our brand new Kitchener location!), this brand new coffee shop is stunning… Oh, and they have a WAFFLE BAR. Yes that’s right. Head over to check out the moss wall, beetle on the ceiling or their Signature Steampunk brewing (and get a waffle!). D. CAFE JOY - Across from the Kitchener Market and Market Lofts, lies the new Cafe Joy. Tucked away in an office building at 235 King Street East, it may be a little tricky to find but is well worth it when you do. Take a peek, spread the joy and try some of their delectable treats! E. THE YETI - The Yeti is one of KW’s favourite, quirky cafes. Located beside the Market Lofts and Kitchener market, the Yeti is full of character and has an awesome community atmosphere. On a Saturday it’s the perfect place to head before a market trip. Enjoy the sweet tunes, hustle and bustle and amazing sandwich options. F. BALZACS - This one is a Communitech staple. Located in the Tannery, Balzac’s may be a cafe chain but each one has its own vibe and style depending on its location. Just a quick stroll from Kaufman and One Victoria as well as the upcoming One Hundred complex, this is a great place to put your head down and get some work done or host a casual work meeting. G. CAFE PYRUS - Calling all vegans! This is the spot for you. Featuring an assortment of light vegan bites and thoughtfully sourced coffee, Cafe Pyrus is the place to go before a quick stroll around Victoria Park. H. HACIENDA COFFEE - One of many reasons we love to hang out at Kitchener Public Library! KPL is a hidden gem and we suggest you go asap if you haven’t already. Hacienda is the perfect addition to an awesome library and we love to spend the day browsing through the stacks of books while sipping on an americano. I. MERCURY CAFE - If you’ve been to a date night at the Apollo Cinema then you probably know Mercury Cafe. They recently partnered together to provide tableside food and beverage service every Thursday, Friday and Saturday during your film. You can also visit their location tucked away at 30 Duke Street and enjoy a variety of gourmet sandwiches and pastries.
